| On Sunday, June 1, 2008 The Musical Merit Foundation of Greater San Diego was proud to present eight young musicians in its annual awards concert. This year the total amount awarded was $41,000, which included a generous contribution from the Fenstermaker Foundation.
On the previous day a panel of professional musicians from outside the area selected the winners through auditions. The entrants are required to present a difficult program of repertoire from various periods of music. Most of the selections must be memorized. Nineteen students performed in the competitive auditions. There is always an atmosphere of excitement as the audience arrives on Sunday to hear the results of the auditions. This year was no exception. The concert traditionally takes place in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church. Winners each performed a selection from their required program. Following the program Conrad Bruderer, auditions chairman, presented the awards. Winners and ther awards are summarized in the HISTORY page of this site. This special afternoon was made possible by the members of the Musical Merit Foundation who year after year bring reality to the purpose of the foundation: to discover, encourage, and present young music students of exceptional talent. | |
