Lóránt
Najbauer: recently graduated from UCSD earning a B.A. in
Economics and a minor in Music and is presently doing graduate work
at Yale where he was seen in the fall ‘09 in THE MARRIAGE
OF FIGARO. He has recently performed in BORIS GODUNOV with San Diego
Opera, and in OEDIPUS REX and THE MAGIC FLUTE with the La Jolla
Symphony. A previous MMF winner (‘06, ’07 and ’08),
he has also won first places in the Virginia Hawk Vocal scholarships,
H.B. Goodin Scholarship Competition and NATS-SD Singer Auditions,
plus second place in the La Jolla Young Artists Competition, along
with placing in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Western
Regional Finals. He has performed and studied in Austria, Croatia
and Hungary.
Eugene Ugorski
has performed concerti with orchestras in Western Europe, Russia,
Korea, Canada, the United States and South America. A concert under
Valery Gergiev at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory in May
of 2005 was broadcast around the world and led to an invitation
from Gergiev to perform with the Rotterdam Philharmonic. He debuted
with the San Diego Symphony at the age of eight, and returned for
three concerts in 2007 as well as performing two concerts at the
Hollywood Bowl in 2008. He has recently had debuts with Houston
Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and in Japan.
Eugene has been a MMF winner in ’06, ‘07 and ‘08.
Mark Teplitsky,
a senior at Torrey Pines High School, is the principal flutist with
the San Diego Youth Symphony (SDYS). He was a MMF finalist in ’08,
and earned firsts in the San Diego Flute Guild competition in ’03,
’04 and’05, in the San Diego MTAC Concert Competition
in ’05, SDYS Concert Competition in ’06, at the California
State Finals of the VOCE competition intermediate winds division
’06, and senior winds in ’08. He has won the Los Angeles
Music Center Spotlights 2007 and Orange County Performing Arts Center
Tomorrow’s Stars 2008 competitions. He regularly performs
throughout San Diego County in community outreach programs and SDYS
fundraising events. His piano playing has won him finalist positions
in prestigious competitions and his fencing qualified him for the
2007 Junior Olympics.
Shuo Vincent Yang
was born in Beijing, China immigrating to Canada with his parents
when he was 4, where he has won numerous local, provincial and national
competitions before moving to San Diego in 2007. He has also won
first place in the Glendale Piano competition ’09, Torrance
Symphony Concerto Competition ’08, CAPMT Sonata Competition
’09 and the William Grant Still Competition ’08. In
January ’09 he made his orchestral debut in the complete Grieg
A minor Piano Concerto with the Torrance Symphony. A graduate of
Torrey Pines HS, he has accepted a scholarship to the USC Thornton
School of Music beginning fall of ’09.
Zachary Zinzer
in his third year at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music
majoring in classical piano performance.
James Romeo
has been a MMF finalist in ’06 and ’09, and won first
place in the San Diego Flute Guild Young Artist Competition (Junior
High, Senior High and Jazz divisions) and was a finalist for the
Indiana University Woodwind Concerto Competition. He has performed
as a featured student soloist with the La Jolla Music Foundation
in ’06 and made his orchestral solo debut playing Nielsen’s
Flute Concerto with the Roosevelt University Orchestra in ’08.
He is a senior at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University.
Victoria Robertson
recently won the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus Young Artist Competition
and the Carlsbad to Karlovy Vary Vocal Competition for classical
singers. She has soloed with the San Diego Symphony, La Jolla Symphony
and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing Band. She is earning her artist diploma
in vocal performance at SDSU and has tours scheduled for New Mexico
and the Czech Republic.
Sasha Hashemipour
won the NATS SD Singers Audition in ’06, a second place in
the ’08 Stewart Brady Competition in San Francisco, and attended
the International Institute of Vocal Arts (IIVA) in Chiari, Italy
in ’07 performing roles in two operas, returning in ’08
for two more operas, plus attending the IIVA in Montreal. Currently
enrolled in the Manhattan School of Music, she recently sang Dorabella/COSI
FAN TUTTE and Charlotte/WERTHER in performances of opera scenes
in May ‘09, and has sung Siebel/FAUST with the Opera Manhattan
Repertory Theater. She is also in training to become a disaster
relief volunteer for the Red Cross.
