REQUIRED INSTRUMENTAL REPERTOIRE 2026

 

2026 Instrumental Applicants                                                Requisitos Instrumentales En Español

 

 

Please prepare a program consisting of four (4) works from the standard concert repertoire from at least three (3) of the following four periods of music:

Baroque

 

Classical

 

Romantic or Impressionist

 

Contemporary (post-1910)

 

STRINGS, WINDS, AND BRASS  

One work should be a complete multi-movement sonata, or a complete suite.  

One work should be a movement of a concerto from the standard repertoire.

Memorization: All repertoire other than accompanied sonatas shall be performed from memory for all in-person rounds. Memorization is not required for Preliminary videos.​

 

PIANO

One or more works should be a complete multi-movement sonata, or a complete suite

(Note: the Beethoven Op. 49 sonatas are not acceptable)

Memorization: All repertoire shall be performed from memory for all in-person rounds. Memorization is not required for Preliminary videos.​

 

PIPE ORGAN

One or more works should be a complete composition of at least three movements, such as a suite, sonata, symphony, or solo concerto.

Memorization: At least two of the above works shall be performed from memory for all in-person rounds. Memorization is not required for Preliminary videos.​

Repetition of Repertoire: No Final Auditions applicant may present compositions prepared for Musical Merit semi-final or final auditions in prior years.​

REQUIRED VOCAL REPERTOIRE

 

2026 Vocal Applicants                                                                Requisitos Vocales En Español

 

Please prepare a program consisting of the following eight (8) items:      

​

  1. An art song or aria composed before 1800 to be sung in Italian. 

  2. An operatic aria from the 19th century standard repertoire
    (including Puccini, R. Strauss, and Wagner), to be sung in the original language and key.

  3. An operatic aria from the 20th or 21st centuries (after Puccini, R. Strauss, and Wagner),
    to be sung in the original language and key. 

  4. An aria from an oratorio or cantata. 

  5. A German art song. 

  6. A French art song. ​

  7. A 20th century English language art song composed before 1950.

  8. An English language art song composed after 1950. 

    • A minimum of four (4) languages must be included. 

    • Operatic arias (as outlined in 2 and 3) may be repeated after a lapse of 3 years. 

 

​​​As an alternative to either one of #5 or #6 above, a Slavic, Spanish, Latin American, Russian, or Scandinavian art song may be sung in the original language. 


Memorization:  All repertoire other than the aria from the oratorio/cantata shall be performed 

from memory for all in-person rounds.  Memorization is not required for Preliminary videos.


Repetition of Repertoire: No Final Auditions applicant may present compositions prepared for Musical Merit auditions in prior years (with the exceptions regarding operatic arias listed under required audition repertoire).
